At this time of year we’re not just carrying out bat surveys for commercial developments, we also respond to call-outs where bats have become an issue with homeowners.
In this most recent example bats were entering a child’s bedroom from a nearby maternity roost and flying around the room at night. The windows were kept open during the day but closed at night and there was no means of potential entry into the bedroom from the interior of the building.
The mystery was solved when we found this single Soprano Pipistrelle bat perched on the mouldings surrounding the bedroom window. Due to the recent heatwave, some of the bats in the colony had been fleeing the intense heat of the loft and crawling down the walls during the day looking for shelter in a cooler location – in this case hiding in the bedroom curtains during the day and flying around the room at night.
Occurrences such as these typically occur for a very short period and almost always at this time of year. Armed with this information the homeowner can take precautions to stop bats from entering the living area in future years, also with the knowledge that these occurrences are temporary and only seasonal in nature.
If you’re looking to have bat surveys undertaken, please contact us, we’d be happy to help.
